Industry Codes (KYB)

When creating corporate applications, you must provide an industry code that classifies the business. Rain uses NAICS (North American Industry Classification System) codes for this purpose. Both 2017 and 2022 NAICS classification versions are supported.

How it works

Industry selection uses a two-tier system:

1. Major industry: select from one of 20 broad industry categories.
2. Specific industry: choose a specific industry within that category.

The final industry value is a 6-digit NAICS code that identifies the business type. The API validates industry against Rain’s accepted NAICS list and returns a 400 for any other value. The industry’s title (for example, Soybean Farming) is also accepted in place of the code, but titles are capped at 50 characters in the accepted list, so send the code. The field is optional: an application without it is accepted, but Rain recommends sending it.

NAICS code format

NAICS codes are 6-digit numbers where:

• The first 2 digits identify the major industry sector
• The remaining digits provide increasing specificity

For example, within the Agriculture, Forestry, Fishing and Hunting sector (11):

• 111110: Soybean Farming
• 111140: Wheat Farming
• 111310: Orange Groves
